Matt Garpiel is the manager of our turf management/land care division.

Matt has been involved with the green industry since 1997 and is currently in charge of several new programs at Garpiel Landscaping. Below is information on several trainings and certifications Matt has taken part in thus far.

Seminar Consist of information updates on federal and state pesticide laws, regulation and pesticide application methods. Topics include Integrated Pest Management, federal and state pesticide laws, understanding labels, understanding how pesticides impact the environment, drift management, pesticides and groundwater, pesticide safety and transportation.

Identifying and Managing Turf Diseases
Fungicides are essential tools for suppressing infectious diseases and maintaining high quality turf. I learned about current research as it continues to identify appropriate chemical solutions for a variety of diseases and to investigate how they can be used most efficiently to reduce chemical use.

Straight Talk on Turf Insecticides
Session covered four major turf pest groups and review currently available insecticides for their control. Special attention will be paid on maximizing efficacy and controlling multiple pests with one application.

Turf Grass Maintenance Everything but Grubs: Billbugs, Chinch Bugs and Sod Webworms
This session I heard straight from the Bug Doc. Discussion includes diagnosing commonly missed turf insects, such as bluegrass billbug, hairy chinch bug and the sod web worm species. Their life cycle were emphasized with recommendations for dealing with these pests using both non-chemical controls as well as regular turf insecticides

Received training in calibrating all types commercial sprayer equipment.

Turf Update
A special update was given by Ron Calhoun MSU Turf Grass Specialist on research findings on the timing and application of herbicides for crabgrass control.
