Keep Trimming Top of Mind for Healthiest Growth

Proper trimming is one of the most essential of all management practices for shrubs and trees in your landscape. Pruning helps remove dead, diseased or damaged branches, promotes new and healthy growth, increases flowering and extends the life of your plants.

Shrub Trimming

  • Flowering Shrubs: The ideal time for trimming is after they are finished blooming (June/July).
  • Evergreen Shrubs: Evergreens can be pruned as necessary to achieve a desired shape.

Tree Trimming

  • Deciduous Trees: Trimming is best done in late fall or early spring when plant is dormant.
  • Evergreen Trees: Trimming is also ideal in late fall or early spring when plant is dormant.

At Garpiel Landscaping, we typically do our major pruning of shrubs between June 15 and July 15. We follow this trimming with a minimal trimming in early September to clean up the shrubs for a better aesthetic look before the dormant season.

Several other plants in your landscape will require specific care, such as hydrangeas, roses, flowering trees and perennials.
